Hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in! I just spotted a couple of things glancing through this trying to understand how Textual's key parsing works.

The
ESCDELAY
env var is the number of milliseconds before registering an escape key. This is borrowed from curses, so may be set in some environments already,When looking in to this, I discovered that we weren't actually using any delay to detect escape keys. The mechanism to do that had been broken for a while.
